BDA to promote 5G industry development
The Beijing 5G Industry Fund and 5G Research Institute plans to settle in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA), which was announced at the 2019 Beijing 5G Industry Development and Investment Summit held in Beijing on May 29.
The summit, co-hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology and the Management Committee of BDA, was attended by more than 300 people from government agencies, investment companies, and professional organizations.
The Beijing 5G Industry Fund, which offers a total of 5 billion yuan ($725 million), is the first 5G industry fund in Beijing that involves the government. In the future, the fund will focus on investing in high-tech enterprises with leading technology in the middle and lower reaches of the 5G industrial chain.
The Beijing 5G Research Institute has formed a management team made up of industry elites. The team is responsible for industry research, business planning, product projects, and other business operations, and will focus on the research, development, and production of ORAN products, small low-frequency / millimeter wave stations, and wireless private network industry products.
It will focus on upstream 5G chips such as FPGA, ADDA, and RF devices, and innovative 5G applications such as artificial intelligence, industrial internet, and mobile medical.
The Beijing 5G Research Institute will work with the Beijing 5G Industrial Fund in the middle and lower reaches of the 5G industrial chain to facilitate the development of fund-based enterprises.
Beijing is a national pilot city for the development and application of 5G networks. Fifty percent of 5G stations in the city are currently deployed in the BDA.
The BDA has been using 5G technology to develop emerging industries and technology, and has gathered more than 30 middle and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain. It has also started construction on a “5G E-town” and completed the key industrialization layout for the 5G project.
The number of experimental 5G stations in the BDA currently exceeds 200, over 50 of which have begun operating. More than 200 5G stations are expected to be ready for use by the end of 2019, which would create a fully functional 5G network within a radius of 60 square kilometers.
